It is with a heavy heart that I must announce my departure from Waylander. Due to a new career path I am unable to continue to give 100% commitment to the band.
The last 23years have been a crazy old ride!! Lots of highs, & yes, a fair few lows but it’s always been a hell of a lot of craic!! There’s nothing like hanging out & playing a few tunes with your mates.
I want to thank my 5 comrades for being understanding & extremely patient with me in recent times. Good luck with the new album & all future ventures lads!!
Also thanks to everyone who has played a part in this journey.
– Michael
We all wish Michael the Best, and will miss him immensely. There’s been many years of fun times, and shared battles. We all wish him every happiness.
Despite knowing that Michael’s statement was coming, it still hurt to see it made public. Myself and Michael have been in this band together for 23 long years and as he alluded to in his statement it hasn’t always been plain sailing. Strangely, my most vivid memory was the day we realised that we were the only pair of eejits left in Waylander and we even discussed putting the band to sleep, permanently. Instead we took a rather large glass of poitin each and walked through the countryside and decided to keep on fighting.
On behalf of all the current members of Waylander, i’d like to thank Michael for his friendship and immense contribution over the years and we wish our brother all the very best for the future.
ON that note, we thought we’d give him one final send off, so this saturday’s gig in Dublin with Cruachan and Skyclad will be Michael’s farewell show. Come on down and give him the send off he deserves.
We have found ourselves the ideal replacement for Michael by the way, someone who is well known to us and who has filled in for Michael a few times in the past. We’d like to welcome ex Sorrowfall 4 stringer, Steve Reynolds to the Clan. More on this and other news in the coming days and weeks.
